Learn to Skate

Learn to Skate is a great way for kids to build confidence and have fun while learning the basics. Whether they're interested in hockey or just want to skate for fun, our coaches will guide them through essential skills in a safe and supportive setting.

We mix drills with games to keep things engaging while skaters improve balance, coordination, and comfort on the ice.

No experience needed!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does my child need prior skating experience?
  • No! Learn to Skate is designed for beginners. No prior skating or hockey experience is necessary.
  • How do we choose between Learn to Skate and Mites?
  • Mites are generally ages 6–8 and have completed at least one season of Learn to Skate. If you're unsure which program is right for your child, please contact us and we'll help you determine the best place to start.
  • What should my child wear?
  • Skaters should wear comfortable, flexible clothing under their equipment. Layers work well, but remember—they'll warm up quickly once they're moving!
  • How should parents dress?
  • If you're watching from the lobby, regular indoor clothing is fine. If you're heading into the bleachers, dress warm—our rink is cold!
  • How early should we arrive?
  • Plan to arrive 15 minutes early if you're familiar with hockey equipment or 30 minutes early if you're new to getting a skater dressed.
  • We're new to hockey equipment. Can someone help us?
  • Absolutely! If you're unfamiliar with hockey equipment, don't hesitate to ask for help. There are coaches and experienced hockey families around who are happy to help get your skater ready for the ice.
  • Not sure how to dress your skater? Watch the short video below for a step-by-step guide to putting on hockey equipment.
  • Can we join late or do drop-ins?
  • Yes. You can register after the program has started. Drop-ins are not allowed; all skaters must be registered before participating.
  • Can I go on the ice with my child?
  • For safety reasons, only coaches and staff are allowed on the ice.
  • Will my child learn to skate AND learn to play hockey?
  • Yes! The first half of the program focuses on building skating skills. During the second half, skaters are introduced to sticks and pucks.
