Try Hockey For Free
Try Hockey For Free is a nationwide initiative led by USA Hockey, in partnership with the NHL and its member clubs, designed to introduce children to the sport of hockey at no cost. The program primarily targets kids ages 4 to 9, offering them a chance to experience hockey in a fun, safe, and welcoming environment.
Frequently Asked Questions
When does the event take place?
The event takes place on October 11, 2025. The event is split into a session for girls and a session for boys.
The girls session is from 9:00am - 10:00am.
The boys session is from 11:15am - 12:15pm.
What do we need to bring for equipment?
Every participant must be wearing a minimum of skates, helmet, and winter gloves. They are allowed to wear sweatshirts, jackets and snow pants, however, keep in mind they will warm up pretty quick so dress in layers they can remove.
The association will provide all required equipment but you are also welcome to bring your own if you have it.
Does this event require USA Hockey Registration?
No, a separate USA Hockey membership is not required to participate.
During registration, you will fill out a waiver for your participant, this will ensure you are covered by USA Hockey for your try hockey event.
What if my child gets injured during the event?
Injury is highly unlikely. However, all participants who register through the Try Hockey For Free event page are covered by USA Hockey.
What if the participant has no hockey or skating experience?
No problem! We love welcoming new players to the game!
Your child will hit the ice with certified coaches and experienced instructors who are passionate about making hockey fun and accessible for everyone. Whether it's their first time skating or they're already comfortable on the ice, our team is here to support all skill levels and make sure every participant has a great time.
What if the participant is outside of the 4 to 9 age range?
While the program is designed for this age range, we can accommodate kids older than 9 as well.
