Thunderfest

Thunderfest is an annual all-girls youth hockey tournament hosted by the Viroqua Hockey Association, celebrating the game, community, and connection. Running strong since 2001, Thunderfest is designed to give girls a unique and memorable hockey experience unlike a traditional team tournament.

Players register individually, not as teams. Participants are placed onto balanced teams made up of girls from different communities, associations, and even states. The goal is simple: play great hockey, meet new teammates, and build friendships that last far beyond the weekend.

Each age division consists of four teams that compete in a round-robin format, with every team playing three games over the weekend. Thunderfest emphasizes fun, sportsmanship, and camaraderie over standings or trophies. Instead of medals, players take home a special Thunderfest jersey—and plenty of bragging rights.

Open to U12, U14, and U19 players, Thunderfest has become a tradition for many girls who return year after year until they age out. It’s a weekend filled with hockey, laughter, and shared experiences that make it a highlight of the season for players and families alike.
